Ironically, delivery costs play a part in the pricing of fuel. Rural and, especially, island communities tend to pay more at the pump. Rural counties also have fewer supermarkets which pushes the price up.
Supermarkets tend to sell fuel as a loss-leader to encourage shoppers into their stores and higher densities of supermarkets in towns & cities drag the average price down.
